Results of the election: The Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP, is in the lead in seven seats after launching an intensive campaign to turn the election into a three-cornered race for the first time in Gujarat.
In New Delhi: In Gujarat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced that the swearing-in ceremony will take place on Monday. Narendra Modi, the prime minister, will be present. In the state where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is from, the BJP is now in the lead with 158 seats, up 59. The Congress is expected to put on its worst performance ever with just under 20 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP, has made gains in the western state, primarily at the expense of the Congress, after launching an aggressive campaign to make it a three-cornered contest for the first time in Gujarat.
However, Himachal Pradesh has saved face for the Congress, which now has a decisive lead over the BJP after a neck-and-neck race after five hours of counting. The grand old party, which currently only holds power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, both of which will hold elections in 2023, will be revived depending on the results of the election in the hill state.
The Samajwadi Party is in the lead in three seats in Uttar Pradesh in the by-elections taking place in five states, including the prominent Lok Sabha seat held by Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav. In Padampur, the Biju Janta Dal is in charge.
