The top budget laptop 2022

The Asus Chromebook Flip CX5, which runs Chrome OS, is our choice for the best inexpensive laptop of 2022. We believe that the CX5 can compete with many high-end smartphones in terms of build quality, performance, and battery life. The HP Pavilion Aero 13 is the greatest budget-friendly Windows laptop in our opinion. The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 3 and the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 are two other top budget laptops. Many of these computers are also included in our rankings of the top laptops, Chromebooks, and student laptops.

Many of the greatest budget laptops we recommend right now are Chromebooks. We think Chromebooks are frequently the greatest value option for consumers looking for a laptop under $500 because they typically come with superior specifications, features, and build quality than most Windows laptops at that price. We are closely monitoring such releases in the hopes of eventually adding more Windows laptops under $500 to our page.

1. Asus Chromebook Flip CX5

The Chromebook Flip CX5 is truly excellent. It has a distinctive velvety texture that is incredibly comfortable to hold and is strong enough to endure all types of jolts and jostles in a backpack or briefcase. A chassis that can compete with many midrange Windows laptops now boasts a large port variety, a smooth and ergonomic keyboard, and an eye-catching display.

Performance is also outstanding. Even while imposing a workload that slowed most devices down in our testing, we never once heard its fan. The battery life is really good and easily lasts us a day. The audio coming from the speakers was some of the best we've ever heard from a Chromebook. The CX5 is one of the greatest devices we've ever reviewed under $700, while not being flawless. Overall, this device won't let down budget customers who don't mind Chrome OS.

2. Asus Chromebook Detachable CM3

The best cheap detachable

The Asus Chromebook Detachable CM3 might be a better option if you like the Duet's size and detachable form factor but are ready to spend more money on something a little more premium. The 10.5-inch 16:10 Chrome OS CM3 tablet is similar to the Duet in that it has a fabric cover, kickstand, and removable screen. However, the kickstand of the CM3 can be folded in two different directions, allowing you to either stand the tablet up horizontally or lengthwise like a laptop.

It also includes a built-in USI pen and spacious keys with an unexpected amount of travel. The battery life was also very good; we were able to operate continuously for an average of over 13 hours.

The power is one area where the CM3 falls a little short of the Duet (and other budget laptops you might try). Compared to more expensive options, its MediaTek CPU can be a little slow. Although it costs less than $400, the CM3 nevertheless has a surprising number of benefits and works well as a secondary or student device.

3. HP Pavilion Aero 13

The best budget Windows laptop

The $669 HP Pavilion Aero 13 is a fantastic option for you if you're searching for a cheap Windows laptop that offers similar category-topping performance while being slimmer and lighter than the Envy x360. One of the fastest CPUs available for thin and light laptops, it sports a potent eight-core Ryzen processor. In addition to performing well, it also has an astonishingly small weight of just 2.1 pounds with a screen ratio of 16:10. It has exceptional battery life as well; I worked nonstop for an average of approximately 11 hours.

To get those benefits at this pricing, HP did have to make some sacrifices. Our model's audio quality was subpar, and it came pre-installed with some cheap bloatware. However, the Pavilion Aero 13 excels in practically every other area, and if you're looking for a useful, affordable Windows PC, it won't let you down.

4. Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2

An affordable laptop with a bold look

The $549 Galaxy Chromebook 2 should be on your shortlist if you're searching for a budget-friendly Chromebook that stands out from the competition. It has a striking "fiesta red" colour (as well as a regular gray, if you prefer to blend in). It has a touchscreen convertible and supports using a stylus, however one is not included.

The Galaxy Chromebook 2's display, which is among the greatest we've ever seen on a Chromebook, is excellent in addition to the design. Additionally, you get a good keyboard, a battery that lasts for a respectable 7 hours and 21 minutes on a single charge, and a selection of connections that includes two USB-C ports, a microSD card slot, and a headphone jack. It's unquestionably among the greatest Chromebooks and inexpensive laptops available.

5. Lenovo Chromebook Duet 3

The best laptop under $500

The Duet 3 should be your first choice if you're searching for an incredibly affordable Chromebook that definitely does the job. With a magnetically detachable keyboard and kickstand, this is a fantastic little laptop for consumers on a tight budget. While not included in this pricing, the screen even supports USI styluses. However, the keyboard, kickstand, and other accessories are all included, making this a really good deal for about $400.

Although we don't advise using the Duet 3 for business purposes, we did find that it worked well for social media, pleasure, and multimedia consumption. The 11-inch screen is clear and bright, and the keyboard and touchpad are surprisingly cosy. Plus, it weighs only 2.09 pounds, which makes it easy to transport in a handbag or backpack.
