Apple is allegedly nearing completion of a 15-inch MacBook Air. The MacBook Air 15 is reportedly scheduled to debut in spring 2023 with a 15.5-inch display.
Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), has updated information indicating that Apple is still on schedule to introduce a bigger MacBook Air model in 2019. According to rumours, Apple is still planning to introduce a 15-inch MacBook Air, as first reported in June by Young and Mark Gurman. Young has since clarified his earlier predictions in a tweet shared with Super Followers.
Specifically, Young claims that rather than the 15.2-inch panels that earlier rumours predicted, Apple's suppliers will begin making 15.5-inch panels in Q1 2023. The analyst also states that the MacBook Air 15 will be released by Apple in spring 2023, which is the period from March 20 to June 21. In other words, there is a significant probability that the MacBook Air won't be updated until Q2 2023, which is predictable given that panel manufacture started a quarter earlier.
The timing of the announcement suggests that Apple M2, rather than Apple M3, will be used to launch the MacBook Air 15. We doubt that Apple would reveal third-generation in-house SoCs prior to the M2 Pro, M2 Max, and M2 Ultra even though the Apple M2 will have been available for about a year by then. According to current rumours, the MacBook Air 15 will include the same MagSafe 3 connector, Force Touch trackpad, and overall design as its 13.6-inch sibling. The 15.5-inch display is anticipated to peak at 60 Hz as well, with MacBook Pro models being the only ones to support 120 Hz ProMotion.
