Exclusive: The Yamaha RX100 Will Return, But Not in the Way You Expected

Even now, there is a cult following for the Yamaha RX100, and in our exclusive conversation with Eishin Chihana, chairman of Yamaha India, he disclosed that the legendary bike will return. It won't, however, be the same two-stroke smoker as the original, but rather a totally contemporary one dressed in vintage attire.

Another bike using a FZ platform?

Yamaha India's most popular platform right now is the FZ platform, and the corporation might profit from this to save production costs. But we sincerely hope Team Blue doesn't act in that manner. After all, a 149cc air-cooled FZ Version 3.0 engine with 12.4PS and 13.3Nm isn't appropriate for the RX tradition. Even the economical FZ 25 engine is not the most appropriate candidate to wear the "RX" moniker. So, will there be an entirely new platform? In our opinion, no.

A RX with liquid cooling? Go for it!

Since its release in 2008, Yamaha's 155cc liquid-cooled motor has consistently attracted customers and generated strong sales. And with the introduction of the R15 V3, the Japanese manufacturer gave it a facelift by adding Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) to maintain it suitable for urban environments without sacrificing the mill's top-end performance. That sounds like the ideal RX100 successor, don't you think?
