Coming to Switch and PS4 are the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games.

 The original six Final Fantasy games will be released on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in spring 2023, according to a statement made on Sunday by Square Enix. The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series includes updated 2D pixel graphics, new soundtracks, a more user-friendly interface, and extras including a bestiary, gallery of illustrations, and music player.



Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy 2, Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 5, and Final Fantasy 6 will all be made available digitally on the PS4 and Switch. The Pixel Remasters are already accessible on Windows PCs through Steam, as well as Android and iOS mobile devices. Xbox systems have not yet received versions from Square Enix.

Square Enix did not release a price for the individual console versions either, however Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 2 are available on Steam for either $11.99 or $17.99. (for Final Fantasy 3 through 6). All six titles in Square Enix's standard edition package are available for $74.99 on Switch and PS4.

According to a press statement from Square Enix, the publisher is also offering a tangible Anniversary Edition of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games, which contains the following:


  • The physical Final Fantasy I-VI Collection is available on the PS4 or Nintendo Switch Anniversary Edition. Product Box
  • A lenticular sleeve added as a bonus to the game package
  • Newly prepared game music on a 2-disc vinyl record set with unique cover art by Kazuko Shibuya
  • aAcollection of gorgeous character pixel art that has been professionally put together.
  • In window packaging, eight stylised pixel art character figures.

By the way, the price of that physical copy, before tax and delivery, is a staggering $259.99.

Beginning in the summer of 2021, Square Enix launched the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series across a number of months. Fans of the legendary role-playing game series mainly praised the remasters, with the exception of some font-related criticism.

On Sunday, the Final Fantasy series celebrated its 35th anniversary. On December 18, 1987, Final Fantasy, the franchise's inaugural game, was made available in Japan on the Nintendo Famicom system.
